The Choice of Ideology

Democracy/Capitalism

This ideology evades the question whether there is a Creator or not, it does not necessarily deny the existence of the Creator, however this ideology is based from the separation of religion and state. In reality this means putting God on the shelf or worshipping him on Sundays. The human being is given the freedom to follow their desires, man is the legislator, sovereignty is given to the way people think things should be. Therefore,in this system, man decides for himself how to live (rule of the people, by the people, for the people..) But in reality its rule of the elite, by the elite, for the elite.

Communism

This ideology denies the existence of a Creator. Accordingly this ideology asserts that what is before life and what is to follow it is just evolution of material. The Communist Party decides the laws, thus the system is identical to democracy/capitalism in placing man as the supreme authority in this life. The failure of Communism as an ideology was apparent when the Soviet Union the communist ideological state itself abandoned its own way of life.

Islam

Is an ideological system that is based on the acknowledgment of and full submission to the Creator; Allah. The Islamic ideology asserts that Allah (swt) is the creator through the use of the mind (rational). He created the universe. He sent Muhammad (saw) as a Messenger to show humanity how to organise their life. After this life there is Day of Judgment. Allah (swt) is the legislator, Muslims derive their way of life from the Quran and Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (saw). Muslims employ their minds in implementing the rules (shariah) of Allah (swt). Muslims are the slave of Allah (swt), and their actions are taken to please Allah (swt).

An Ideology is a comprehensive concept that covers man, life and the whole universe, it answers what is before this life and what comes after it, and also establishes the ties (relationships) between this life and what preceded and what is to follow it. To be an ideology and not just a theory or imagination, a system to live this life must be based upon a comprehensive thought.

Allah (swt) says

‘إِنَّ الدِّينَ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ الْإِسْلَامُ

The Deen with Allah is Islam” (Surah al-Imran;19)

Based on this ayah Allah (swt) is addressing the Muslims that the ONLY Deen accepted by Allah is Islam. Furthermore, for those who are willing to ponder this ayah also gives the implication for the existence of other ideologies.

In addition the Messenger of Allah (saw) explicitly states in a hadith:

“Whoever performs an act that is not upon our command, it is rejected” [Bukhari and Muslim]

In other words, anything that contravenes a command of the legislator i.e. Allah (swt) that was not accompanied with practical steps of implementation falls under the classification of Hukm Shari’ee and is defined as Haram, Makruh or Mubah. There can be no human action intending to the good except them being from the Deen of al-Islam.

Since the Muslims goal is the seek the pleasure of Allah (swt), it becomes imperative to adopt islam as a Deen, and ensure that all our actions are based on Islam, whether this be in the fields of politics, economics, social interaction or the individual sphere.

Muslims should also ensure not to be a part of Deen’s other than Islam. This doesn’t mean isolation but rather to discuss Islam comprehensively to non-Muslims and Muslims and show the fallacy of Democracy and Capitalism.

Teens in the Arabic language roughly translates in the English language as ideology. The word ideology means a way of life, a total outlook about man, life and the universe and the way people derive their solutions based on the ideology when confronted with problems.

Essentially the ideology has to answer the questions which have occupied every human beings mind, which are:

  • How the universe came in to being?
  • What is the meaning of life?
  • How are we to organise ourselves?
  • What was before this life?
  • What happens after this life?

In addition, an ideology must also have a method for brining it in to application, functioning and propagation to other people.

Allah (swt) said

“Allah is the Guardian of those who have faith; He brings them out of darkness into light; and those who reject faith, their guardians are false-deities, (taghut), who bring them out of light into darkness; they are the inhabitants of the Fire wherein shall they abide forever. ” [Surah al-Baqara:257]

It is will known that the dhulumat (darkness) mention here is referring to Kufr in the plural form, whereas the Light is referring to Islam in the singular form. Thus, there are many forms of Kufr, such as Capitalism, Communism, Socialism or Democracy. and their various colourful manifestations. But only one form of Islam.

Therefore, the Muslims must reject all forms of darkness other than Islam. For the Muslim Umma the choices is to adopt Islam and only Islam. Compromising between one ideology with another is not accepted by Allah (swt).

The Muslim umma has to make the only correct wholesome  choice and choose the ideology of Islam over other ideologies.
